Love Live! Waifu Deck List – Umi!

Welcome to a 9th CX Love Live! Waifu deck list! For this time around, we have a list featuring Melanie’s favorite, Umi! This list is brought to you by Bay Area TO Ben Bolival, who actually piloted this list to  multiple victories and top cuts in local events.

As we have with our character spotlights before, this deck list will have only brief analysis.

4 Sleepy Time, Umi (LL/W34-065)

At level 0, we have 15 cards.

“No brand girls” Umi reveals the top card of your deck on play. If it’s not a [Music] character, the revealed card goes to clock.

“School Idol Festival” Umi is a level reverser. You can pay 1 stock to ‘snipe’ a level 0 on your opponent’s center stage. (Send it to the waiting room)

“Snow Woman” Umi Sonoda is a global [Music] support. (Gives all other [Music] characters you control +500 power.) You can also rest 2 Umis you control to give a character you control +1000 power until end of turn.

When you play Umi, Kind Smile, you can pay 1 stock and discard a CX. If you do, you choose 1 (not up to 1) CX in your waiting room and return it to your hand.

Umi, Touring Sightseeing Spots is a ‘standard’ searcher. (On play, you can pay 1 stock and discard a card to search your deck for up to 1 [Music] character.)

At level 1, we have 15 characters.

“Our LIVE is LIFE with You” Umi Sonoda is a ‘global’ [Music] support. It has a brainstorm ability for 1 stock and resting 2 characters: for each CX revealed, you search your deck for up to 1 [Music] character.

“Silent Night” Umi Sonoda has an Experience ability, and gets +1500 power as long as a “Happy Maker!” Umi Sonoda is in your level zone. It has a CX combo with Hidden Feelings: when it reverses a character in battle, you may salvage 1 character.

As long as you control only Umis, “Anenome Heart” Umi Sonoda gets +2000 power.

“That Is Our Miracle” Umi Sonoda has clock encore, and gets +1000 power as long as you control 3 or more other [Music] characters.

“Dancing stars on me!” Umi Sonoda has a 0 stock, +1500 power Backup ability.

At level 2, we have 4 characters.

Umi Sonoda gets +5000 power for each other rested [Music] character you control.

Chibi Umi has a 1 stock, +2500 power Backup ability.

At level 3, we have 8 characters.

When you play “Summer Festival Date” Umi Sonoda, you reveal the top card of your deck. If it’s a [Music] character, you may burn 1. You can pay 1 stock and rest 2 [Music] characters you control to send a level 0 character your opponent controls (on center or back stage).

“Happy maker!” Umi Sonoda gets -1 level in your hand if you control 4 or more Umis. It gets +1000 power as long as you control 3 or more [Music] characters, and when played, you may salvage a [Music] character.

The CX spread is a 4/4 split, but is composed only of 1k1 + Door (salvage) triggers.

Quick, Melanie! Why do we love Umi and why do we use this deck?

Melanie: The reason why we love Umi with this second deck is that she shows us her true power in this new deck. She’s a talented, caring girl who helps others and sings beautifully. Her hard work shines in this deck as it does in others as she sets up utility for a strong finish.

Michael: Correct answer! (cue the rumblings of non-Umi fans)

Really though, how do we use this deck?

Michael: At level 0, the objective is to build some stock and build some card advantage through the use of bigger Umis and level reversers. There is some utility in searching, and also a rare ability to swap CXs.

Fortunately, the CX swap doesn’t become terribly relevant until level 1, where the one CX combo in the deck is focused on salvaging characters with “Silent Night” Umi. (Sounds a little morbid out of context, huh?) Fortunately, the combo still functions without the Experience component, although it does become more challenging to land.

The brainstorm Umi should be a familiar sight to many a Love Live! player – as it is quite the star card. This is the way the deck gains cards in hand and displaces more than 3 cards per turn. When the engine is going, the deck will get rid of 7 cards a turn, with 1 or 2 CXs being used through triggers or being found with the brainstorm, either of which will usually result in more cards in hand.

Most of the level 1 for the deck should be trying to sculpt and preserve a full board of Umis for level 2, because it makes way for “Happy maker!” Umi Sonoda. Umi Sonoda (plain and tall) is there at level 2 to be a 9000-10000+ power character, which can go over the top of almost any level 1 characters, and can even trade with some level 3s.

Once level 3 comes around, “Summer Festival Date” Umi Sonoda is there to provide some info about your trigger, and also burn your opponent. The ability to take out level 0s is rarely going to be relevant, and the level 0 does it almost as well if not better most of the time.

Melanie endorses the following comment:

Well, that’s a really funny way of saying “If your opponent doesn’t know that Umi is best girl they are wrong and should feel bad” and that you should announce “UMI DAH” as loudly as possible whenever your opponent asks what you’re playing or whenever they don’t because everybody in the area needs to hear that Umi #1!

Right, so we are going to go back to working on more of these, but we need you to decide who’s next!

If you need a guide for who’s who… YOU DO NOT IDOL HARD ENOUGH there are enough memes out there to show which one is which (right?)

(We would like to place our obligatory post-mortem apology if you have been offended in any way by this article, except if the only offense was that this was Umi. If that is the case, well then VOTE for best girl next!)
