Love Live! Character Spotlight – Eri Ayase

Eri Swag

Welcome to the ninth installment of the 9 Love Live! Waifu spotlights!

For this waifu challenge, we collected nine lists from nine different Love Live! fans. Only cards with the character were allowed! We’ve asked each of these dedicated fans why their favorite idol is Best Girl™, and if you agree with them, you can look at the decks as a deck to try for a dedicated Waifu build!

Because the decks are not meant to be competitive, their viability in the tournament environment will not be assessed, and analysis will be significantly reduced.

Translations can be found on Heart of the Cards. Names will be matched to reflect the translation notes. If translations are unavailable for the card, in-house translations will be used. Card names will be aligned to match the more common spellings of names, if necessary. Some cards may appear in their EN wording.

This deck list is brought to you by Aubrey Pruett.

Now onto the list!

At level 0, we have 16 characters.

хорошо Eri has a Change ability: you can put it into your clock at the start of your climax phase to Change into an “Our LIVE is LIFE With You” Eri.

Eri, μ’s Backup Dancer? gets +1000 power as long as you control 2 or more other [Music] characters.

Eri, Getting Ahead gives all your other “Eri” characters +500 power. Up to once per turn, when you use an [S] (Startup, or [A]) ability, choose a character you control, and it gets +500 power until end of turn.

When you play “Good Idea” Eri, you can put the top card of your opponent’s stock into the waiting room. If you do, you choose a card in your opponent’s waiting room and put it into their stock. It also has a Brainstorm ability for 1 stock and resting it: for each CX revealed, do this once per CX: “Choose a card in your clock, return it to your hand, then put the top card of your deck into clock”. (If you use the ability with no cards in clock and hit 1 or more CXs, you will actually end up with a card in your clock.)

“Dancing stars on me!” Eri Ayase has an ability that lets you rest 2 [Music] characters you control to give a character you control +2000 power until end of turn.

It’s Eri in a Swimsuit! (Also, without abilities!)

At level 1, we have 12 characters.

“Our LIVE is LIFE With you” Eri gets +500 power for each other [Music] character you control.

“Always, No Matter What” Eri has clock encore and gets +1000 power if you control 3 or more other [Music] characters.

Chibi Eri has a 0 stock +1500 power Backup ability.

When “Wonderful Rush” Eri attacks, you choose up to 2 [Music] characters you control (It can choose itself) and those characters get +500 power until end of turn. (You can’t choose the same character more than once.)

At level 2, we have 8 characters.

“That Is Our Miracle” Eri gets +500 power for each other [Music] character you control.

Otonokizaka High 3rd Year, Eri is a level assist. (It gives characters you control in front of it +X power, where X is 500 times that character’s level) When played, if you control 4 or more other [Music] characters, you can put the top card of your deck into stock.

“KiRa-KiRa Sensation!” Eri Ayase gets +1500 power until end of turn during the turn you play it. It has a CX combo with “Reflecting on Memories”: when it attacks, it gets +3000 power until end of turn, and you choose up to 1 [Music] character in your waiting room and put it in stock.

“Staying Like This Is Best” is a true “Eri” counter: you choose a character you control, and it gets +X power until end of turn where X is 1000 times the number of “Eri” characters you control.

At level 3, we have 6 characters.

“Fox’s Wedding” Eri has a Heal trigger when played. When it attacks, you can pay 2 stock to Bounce a character on your opponent’s center stage.

When you play “Happy maker!” Eri, if you control 4 or more other “Eri” characters, you may put the top card of your deck into stock. You can pay 1 stock to give an “Eri” you control +1500 power until end of turn. During the turn that it’s played, if it reverses a character in battle, you may pay 1 stock to send the reversed character to clock.

The CX spread is a 4/4 split between 1k1 + Bounce and +2 soul effects and triggers, respectively.

How do we use this deck?

Just remember that Eri’s the best!

But really, the deck is very much a power and soul rush build, with some Bounce effects as tech.

Starting from level 0, the deck can Change into a larger Eri to start attacking down troublesome characters and trade favorably against level reversers. Otherwise, it can setup for a very powerful level 1 with its mix of power-adding effects.

When at level 1, the deck can start to slap around the opponent with characters (not necessarily right away with CXs) and reverse things turn after turn. There is a set of Eri that has clock encore just in case the opponent plays something absolutely enormous, but level 2 is where the deck can really take off.

At level 2, the deck unlocks its potentially +5000 power Backup with Staying Like This Is Best, and has a CX combo with “KiRa-KiRa Sensation!” Eri to pump up stock for the end game and get in for big damage.

Once level 3 rolls around, Eri has quite the blend of Bounce and “clock kick” abilities to look forward to. Other girls might have one or the other, but with Eri, the question is, “Why not both?”

But why is Eri best girl?

A: I love Eri Ayase for her character, her actions, her attitude towards her friends, and the most because of how cute she is. I love her character throughout Love Live because she is always working hard towards her goals. She was always trying to save the school which made me like her a lot more. She worried about her friends and tried to help them through the issues that occurred which added to the love factor. Overall Eri Ayase is my top anime love because she’s always backing her friends, those around her, and she tries to protect what’s important to her.

Do you think Eri is best girl? Don’t worry, the girls will have encores with other lists!
