Love Live! Character Spotlight – Nico Yazawa

Nico

Welcome to the eighth installment of the 9 Love Live! Waifu spotlights!

For this waifu challenge, we collected nine lists from nine different Love Live! fans. Only cards with the character were allowed! We’ve asked each of these dedicated fans why their favorite idol is Best Girl™, and if you agree with them, you can look at the decks as a deck to try for a dedicated Waifu build!

Because the decks are not meant to be competitive, their viability in the tournament environment will not be assessed, and analysis will be significantly reduced.

Translations can be found on Heart of the Cards. Names will be matched to reflect the translation notes. If translations are unavailable for the card, in-house translations will be used. Card names will be aligned to match the more common spellings of names, if necessary. Some cards may appear in their EN wording.

This deck is brought to you by Billy Hickey.

Onto the list!

ll-w24-029

When you play Nico, Third-Year Student at Otonokizaka Academy, you put the top card of your deck under it as a marker. You can use that marker in place of 1 stock when you pay for Change abilities. LL-W34-028

Super Idol Nico-chan can’t be played if you don’t control a “Nico”. You search your deck for up to 1 “Nico” character and put it into your hand. (Reveal, shuffle, etc)

ll-w28-022

“Nico is Popular” Nico gets +1000 power for every marker under it. Whenever it reverses a character in battle, you can put the top card of your deck under it as a marker. (You can’t look at it) You can pay 1 stock to give it +1 soul until end of turn.

LL-W34-021

“Door of Dreams” Nico Yazawa has a 1 stock +2000 power Backup ability. When you use the Backup ability, if you only control “Nico” characters, you may put the top card of your deck into stock.

ll-w28-031

“I’ll Teach You ♪” Nico has a 1 stock +3000 power Backup ability.

LL-W34-006

How do we use this deck?

Special thanks to Billy for adding his analysis for the section.

B: There is a lot of fun tech in this deck. This deck has a lot of salvage and search, so hand size and card playability shouldn’t be an issue. With a smart resource management strategy to pair with it, this deck will snowball down a hill and pick up the competition with it. If you play your cards right, pun intended, you can build up huge power levels to get rid of pesky characters early on in the game. At Level 0, you can use the CHANGE ability of Nico in Pajamas to bring out your marker Nico with a 6000 power base, and with every character you reverse, it gains a marker and +1000 power. If you get this in at an early level 0 and hold off your opponent for a few turns your “Nico Is Popular” Nico will pose a real problem for your opponent, giving you an aggressive advantage early on in the game.

When you play the 500 assist “That is Our Miracle” Nico Yazawa in the background, you can rest two characters and pay two stock, boost a character with 2000 power, and then salvage a character upon reversing your opponent. This will help you keep characters ready for level 2.

“Happy maker!” Nico Yazawa is a 3/2 base 10000 power firecracker. She gains +500 power for every other Nico character you control. If you’re playing a full field she will be at 12000, not counting assists and CXs. By the time you get to level 3 you can play the game winner of this deck, the infamous clock-shooting Nico, Idol Otaku. This card not only gives -1 soul to the character opposite of it, but it allows you to send a reversed character to clock. This deck allows you to pull the cards you need to win, fairly easily; the 1/0 event Super Idol Nico-chan allows you to get the cards in your hand that you need to succeed. (And that’s on top of all the search and salvage the deck already has!)

But why is Nico best girl?

B: First and foremost, Nico is everyone’s favorite loli. Nico is one of the cutest anime girls I’ve ever had the honor of meeting and slowly falling in love with. This beautiful, pony-tail wearing, firecracker really puts spice in my life. Her beautiful smile and her energy help me start my day off right. One of the reasons I love Nico is because out of the nine members, she has one of the strongest passions when it comes to becoming an idol, hence her high standards. Her theme color is pink, and who doesn’t love pink? It is the epitome of cute! One thing that is notable about Nico, is that she is good when it comes to projecting a charming and happy idol character as opposed to her real, aggressive and competitive nature. If your heart doesn’t flutter when you hear “Nico, Nico, Nii!” then you should get your pulse checked because that can turn even the hardest of hearts into one filled with joy and happiness. Her cute and cut-throat attitude is well translated into the deck. She is a beautiful and determined girl with big dreams who can be an inspiration to us all.
