Welcome to the seventh installment of the 9 Love Live! Waifu spotlights!
For this waifu challenge, we collected nine lists from nine different Love Live! fans. Only cards with the character were allowed! We’ve asked each of these dedicated fans why their favorite idol is Best Girl™, and if you agree with them, you can look at the decks as a deck to try for a dedicated Waifu build!
Because the decks are not meant to be competitive, their viability in the tournament environment will not be assessed, and analysis will be significantly reduced.
Translations can be found on Heart of the Cards. Names will be matched to reflect the translation notes. If translations are unavailable for the card, in-house translations will be used. Card names will be aligned to match the more common spellings of names, if necessary. Some cards may appear in their EN wording.
This deck is brought to you by Benjamin Schiffli.
Now let’s get to the list before she-

At level 0, we have 16 characters.
“Going Out Together♪” Nozomi is a ‘standard’ searcher. (When played, you can pay 1 stock and discard a card. If you do, search your deck for up to 1 [Music] character, reveal it, put it into your hand, then shuffle.)
“School Idol Festival” Nozomi gives characters you control in front of it +500 power. When played, you look at the top card of your deck and can put it either on the top or bottom.
Nozomi, Thinking of Underclassmen gets +1000 power as long as you control 1 or fewer characters on your center stage.
Whenever Nozomi, Tea Time attacks, you choose a character you control and it gets +500 power until end of turn. (It can choose itself) It also has a Brainstorm ability for 1 stock: for each CX revealed, choose a character you control, and it gets +2000 power until end of turn.
“Glass Garden” Nozomi Tojo gives your other character in the middle slot of center stage +500 power. You can pay 2 stock and rest it to search your deck for up to 1 [Music] character. (Reveal, put into hand, shuffle.)
Nozomi, Full of Smiles gets +1500 power as long as you control another “Nozomi”.
At level 1, we have 9 characters and 3 events.
Maid Nozomi? Vanilla Nozomi!
When you play “Door of Dreams” Nozomi Tojo, it gets +2000 power until end of turn if you control another “Nozomi”.
“Dancing stars on me!” Nozomi Tojo has hand (character) encore.
Morning of Graduation Ceremony has you reveal the top card of your deck. If the revealed card is a “Nozomi” character, you choose up to 2 characters you control, and those characters get +3500 power until the end of your opponent’s next turn.
At level 2, we have 10 characters.
Otonokizaka High 3rd Year, Nozomi has a 1 stock +3000 power Backup ability. If played, you choose another [Music] character you control and it gets +2000 power until end of turn.
When you play “KiRa-KiRa Sensation!” Nozomi Tojo, you reveal the top card of your deck. If the revealed card is a [Music] character, it gets +2000 power until end of turn.
“Always, No Matter What” Nozomi Tojo gives characters you control in front of it +1000 power. At the start of your main phase, you look at the top card of your deck and put it either on the top or bottom of your deck.
“Secrets” Nozomi has a CX combo with “Tarot Reading”: when it attacks, you choose up to one other character you control and put it into stock, and choose another character you control, and it gets +2000 power until the end of your opponent’s next turn. (It can’t choose itself for either ability.)
At level 3, we have 4 characters.
“Happy maker!” Nozomi Tojo has a Heal trigger on play, and gets +1000 power as long as you control 3 or more other [Music] characters. It has a CX combo with “Important Friends”: when the CX is played, if this is on the center stage, you may pay 1 stock. If you do, search your deck for up to 1 [Music] character and put it onto any slot on your stage, then shuffle your deck.
The CX spread is a 4/4 split between 2k1 + 2 soul and 1k1 + Bar (Treasure) effects and triggers respectively.
How do we use the deck?
In WS, yellow is known for having power on the controller’s turn only. In Nozomi’s case though, she gets a mix of power on turn and power until the end of the opponent’s next turn, the latter of which tends to be found in green.
At level 0, the deck has a pretty standard mix of Assist and power, with a little search tech thrown in. Once the deck hits level 1, it can use its power to clear opponent’s characters, and can use Morning of Graduation Ceremony depending on where the opponent’s power is. For some decks, it may be best to use it at level 2 because they use early play level 3 characters, but others may simply all-in at level 1. There are a number of “top check” effects, so make sure to hold onto them so as to get maximum value.
At level 2, the Nozomi assist lets you check your top card every turn, which really lets the deck hit its “top check” triggers as much as possible every turn. It can also sculpt triggers for more favorable attacks in the end game.
The endgame for this deck is surprisingly short in that there is only one Nozomi to play, but with the CX combo, it can turn the tides of a level 3 fight. Just remember that if you search for another copy of “Happy maker!” Nozomi, you won’t heal; the trigger only happens when you play it from hand.
Oh, and for maximum theatrical value, remember whenever you cancel, it’s because:
But why is Nozomi best girl?
Benjamin: Plot, in more than the obvious way. She’s the real mastermind of the group. Running everything behind the scenes and giving everyone the push they need for the group to come together. Then she’s like, the cards tell me there should be nine, so I’m part of the group too. lol. I’m just naturally attracted to the smart, competent people in most shows I watch, it doesn’t hurt that she has twintails and plot.
