Welcome to the sixth installment of the 9 Love Live! Waifu spotlights!

For this waifu challenge, we collected nine lists from nine different Love Live! fans. Only cards with the character were allowed! We’ve asked each of these dedicated fans why their favorite idol is Best Girl™, and if you agree with them, you can look at the decks as a deck to try for a dedicated Waifu build!

Because the decks are not meant to be competitive, their viability in the tournament environment will not be assessed, and analysis will be significantly reduced.

Translations can be found on Heart of the Cards. Names will be matched to reflect the translation notes. If translations are unavailable for the card, in-house translations will be used. Card names will be aligned to match the more common spellings of names, if necessary. Some cards may appear in their EN wording.

The deck list, analysis, and comprehensive 25-page guide (not a joke) are brought to you by Melanie Strock.

ll-w28-010

When you play “No brand girls” Umi, you reveal the top card of your deck and put that card into clock if the revealed card isn’t a [Music] character.

ll-w28-053

“School Idol Festival” Umi is a level reverser and a “sniper”: you can pay 1 stock to send a level 0 or lower character on your opponent’s center stage to the waiting room.

ll-w24-062

Runaway Delusions, Umi is a “vanilla” assist. (Gives characters you control in front of it +500 power)

LL-W34-049

Umi, Touring Sightseeing Spots, is a “standard” searcher. (When played, you can pay 1 stock and discard a card to search your deck for up to 1 [Music] character, reveal, put into hand, then shuffle.)

LL-W34-048

When you play Umi, Kind Smile, you can pay 1 stock and discard a CX to salvage a CX.

ll-w28-062

“Going Out Together” Umi is vanilla!

At level 1, we have 13 characters.

LL-W34-055

If you only control “Umi” characters, “Anemone heart” Umi Sonoda gets +2000 power.

ll_w24_004

A very familiar “Our LIVE is LIFE With You” Umi Sonoda gives all other [Music] characters you control +500 power. You can Brainstorm by paying 1 stock and resting two characters: for each CX revealed, search your deck for up to 1 [Music] character. (Even if you reveal 0 CXs, you still shuffle your deck.)

ll-we19-06

“That Is Our Miracle” Umi Sonoda has clock encore and gets +1000 power if you control 3 or more other [Music] characters.

LL-W34-041

“Door of Dreams” Umi Sonoda is an “Umi” level assist; “Umi” characters you control in front of it get +X power, where X is 500 times that character’s level. You can pay 2 and rest it to salvage a character.

At level 2, we have 5 characters and 2 events.

LL-W34-037

“KiRa-KiRa Sensation!” Umi Sonoda has a CX combo with “Sleepy Time Umi”: when the CX is played, it gets +3000 power and “When this reverses a character in battle, you may put that character on top of its owner’s deck” until end of turn.

LL-W34-062

If you don’t control an “Umi”, you can’t play Desperate Feeling. When played, you can choose a character your opponent controls with cost 1 or less and send it to the waiting room.

ll-w24-116

Chibi Umi has a 1 stock +3000 power Backup ability.

At level 3, we have 6 characters.

LL-W34-036

If you control 4 or more “Umi” characters, “Happy maker!” Umi Sonoda gets -1 level in hand. It gets +1000 if you control 3 more more other [Music] characters. When played, you may salvage a [Music] character.

ll_w24_052

Otonokizaka High 2nd Year, Umi has a Heal ability when played. It gets +1000 power if you control 3 or more other [Music] characters. It has a CX combo with “You’re the worst!”: when it attacks, you salvage a character, and all [Music] characters you control (including itself) get +1000 power until end of turn.

The CX spread is a 4/4 split between 1k1 + Door and 2k1 + 2 soul effects and triggers, respectively.

How do we use this deck?

Melanie has written her thoughts on how to use the deck, so she’ll take it from here:

This deck seeks to set up using several search and salvage tools for a top deck end game with Kira-Kira Sensation Umi. Yellow is only mainly used at Level 1, so don’t be afraid with the ratios in this deck to clock or Level with a Level 1 Yellow (probably the only main issue with a Umi name only deck).

While the Level Assist Umi is a 1/1, she is more beneficial to your Level 2 and 3 characters, so seek in most cases to play her at Level 2 rather than Level 1. At Level 2 play the Level 3 “Happy Maker!” Umi for a free salvage and power, as well as set up the field for the “KiraKira Sensation” combo to top deck some damage.

The 2/1 event at Level 2 or 3 can decimate your opponent’s back row assists and help your 2/1 Umi power over something. At Level 3 you can play and heal with the other Level 3 Umi and give power to your other characters with her climax combo. Your Level 2 combo can also be used to help end the game as well.

But why is Umi best girl?

Umi is an energetic and hard working girl who cares about and helps her friends. She’s logical, perhaps a little old-fashioned, and fantasizes just a bit. It’s hard not to identify with this young lady who helps to support her friend’s dreams and works hard toward her goals! I hope you enjoy playing all of her cards as much as I will!

So what about that exhaustive 25-page Umi analysis?

That can be found right here, and yes, it really is that thorough of a guide. If you are truly serious about getting the best Umi deck possible (and for those that love Umi, who wouldn’t??) then that guide is for you!
