Nisekoi (JP) Deck Tech – 2014 EGP Qualifier Winner #1

Welcome to the 9th CX’s Weiss Schwarz deck techs! For this article, we will be looking at a deck that won a qualifier for the 2014 European Grand Prix – Nisekoi!

Note, because the ban list has been (and will likely continue to be) updated, the original list is no longer allowed in competitive play. To balance this out, we’ve asked the winner how he would build a deck in the post-ban environment, and will be featuring both lists, but with minimal analysis.

Because the set has been released in a different state in EN, old JP translated names will be used.

The tournament report and decks are brought to you by David van Niekerk.

So what’s the winning list?

Unfortunately, because the deck is no longer legal, we have had to skip the analysis portion for this deck list (how to use, what it can do, etc). Though, lists almost card-for-card have been featured in the past.

One of the questions we asked David in the interview was how he might build (or rebuild) the deck post-ban. Here is a list he put together:

Now onto the interview!

Michael: Hi David! Congratulations on the win!

D: Thanks!

M: How was your event overall?

D: It was the first EGP qualifier for Germany in Aachen, and a nice tournament for me. The main reason for participating was the Ilya deck box (HYPE) but then I won =)

M: What was a really lucky moment you had during the tournament?

D: In the semifinals, I had luck that my opponent did more than 6 damage to himself with the Item searcher from Railgun S (RG/W26-014), and still nearly had no field. And, was also lucky that I didn’t get placed against Log Horizon in the semis. (The fear is real)

M: Any particularly unlucky moments you had during the event?

D: Not really, besides having to play every round against people I know.

M: How about incredible comebacks?

D: Nah, nothing spectacular happened.

M: How did the final match go for you? What did you play against?

D: The final was a hard match versus [email protected] I had no problem with the deck, but unfortunately the player was “dead serious” (i.e. rule sharking, extreeeeemely long shuffling sessions, etc), which I really didn’t like. To me, WS is more of a waifu and anime fan game as opposed to a really competitive one. The game went smoothly on both sides, but he made one mistake, and from there I was able to dominate and win it.

M: Nice. How did you prepare for the tournament? Did you do anything special the day of?

D: Prayed to every god I know and went to my local shaman to bless me with the Spirit of Victory…

No, didn’t do anything special.

M: Heh, if only, right? Congratulations again on the win! Anything else you would like to say or shout outs you’d like to make?
