Welcome to the second installment of the 9 Love Live! Waifu spotlights!
For this waifu challenge, we collected nine lists from nine different Love Live! fans. Only cards with the character were allowed! We’ve asked each of these dedicated fans why their favorite idol is Best Girl™, and if you agree with them, you can look at the decks as a deck to try for a dedicated Waifu build!
Because the decks are not meant to be competitive, their viability in the tournament environment will not be assessed, and analysis will be significantly reduced.
Translations can be found on Heart of the Cards. Names will be matched to reflect the translation notes. If translations are unavailable for the card, in-house translations will be used. Card names will be aligned to match the more common spellings of names, if necessary.
This deck list is brought to you by David Hughes (and friends).

At level 0, we have 16 cards.
When “Please Watch Rin Nya~♪” Rin attacks, you choose up to 2 [Music] characters you control, and they get +500 power until end of turn.
Rin in Swimsuit is a vanilla!
“Going out Together♪” Rin has the ability to run to another slot on your center stage at the start of your opponent’s attack phase for 1 stock.
“KiRa-KiRa Sensation!” Rin Hoshizora has an ability that triggers up to once per turn: when you use a startup [S] (or [A]) ability, you choose a character you control and it gets +500 power until end of turn. (This includes when you use Backup abilities) You can pay 1 stock and rest this to Brainstorm: for each CX revealed, you tutor for up to 1 [Music] character. (If you don’t reveal any CXs, you won’t search or shuffle.)
At the start of your opponent’s attack phase, you can pay 1 stock. If you do, “Beat in Angel” Hoshizora gets +2000 power until end of turn. (You can’t pay more than once to give it +4000 power, etc)
Rin, Feelings Toward Live gives your other “Rin” character in the middle slot on your center stage +1 level and +1000 power.
At level 1, we have 11 characters.
When you play “No brand girls” Rin, it gets +X power until end of turn, where X is 500 times the number of [Music] characters you control. (It will count itself) You can also pay 1 stock to give it +1 soul until end of turn.
Rin in Lesson Outfit is a vanilla!
Rin Hoshizora has a 1 stock +2000 power Backup ability.
Rin, First-Year Student at Otonokizaka Academy has hand (character) encore. It has a CX combo with “μ’s Friends”: when it attacks, if you control 3 or more other [Music] characters, you may put the top card of your deck into clock. If you do, draw up to 2 cards, then discard a card.
At level 2, we have 6 characters and 3 events.
You can rest 2 characters you control to give “Our LIVE is LIFE with You” Rin Hoshizora +2000 power until end of turn. If it reverses a level 2 or higher character in battle, you may pay 1 stock. If you do, you search your deck for up to 1 [Music] character.
Rin, Crying Hard is a level support. (It gives characters you control in front of it +X power, where X is 500 times the character’s level.) You can rest two characters you control to give a character “When this reverses a character in battle, you may draw a card. If you do, discard a card.” until end of turn.
Rin, Everyone’s Power can’t side attack. When played, if you control 4 or more other “Rin” characters, you may put the top card of your deck into stock. (You can’t look at it.)
“Love wing bell” is a Rin ‘clone’ of Sayaka’s Wish; an event with counter step timing. You choose a “Rin” you control and send it to the waiting room. If you do, put the top card of your clock into your hand, then send it to memory. (If for some reason you don’t control a Rin when you play the event, it’ll just go to the waiting room, because sending it to memory is part of resolving the card’s ability.)
At level 3, we have 6 characters.
When you play “Whimsical Cat” Rin, you draw up to 2 cards then discard a card. When it attacks, you can pay 1 stock and discard a card. If you do, you choose a [Music] character you control and it gets +X power and +1 soul until end of turn, where X is 1500 times the level of the chosen character.
When you play “Happy maker!” Rin Hoshizora, you may pay 1 stock. If you do, you choose up to 2 cards in your opponent’s waiting room. Your opponent then shuffles all but those 2 cards in the waiting room into his or her deck. (This does not cause a refresh penalty to occur.) It has a CX combo with “Energetic Victory Pose”: when it attacks, you may pay 1 stock. If you do, you search your deck for up to 2 [Music] characters.
The CX spread is a 4/4 split between 1k1 + Book (Draw) and 1k1 + Gate effects and triggers, respectively.
How do we use this deck?
At level 0, the deck has a good variety of effects. There are runners and other characters that can protect against higher power and/or opposing level reversers. Even the Rin that can brainstorm is very powerful in its own right, allowing you to gain card advantage for stock throughout the game.
The deck does not need a critical mass of stock, even going into level 1. Should it have access to its CX combo at level 1, it can start to add cards to its hand. Those extra cards can be used to build the hand for level 2, or for preserving a board if the deck is still early in its level 1. With a copy of the brainstorming Rin, even telegraphed Backup abilities can catch an opponent off guard.
At level 2, Rin really takes off, as the deck gets access to “Love wing bell” to “heal” before level 3. The card itself gets around Heal tax abilities because the card goes directly to hand, instead of to the waiting room. The deck has level supports to make sure the LIVE Rin is able to search for characters through its ability, and said supports can also help to filter through more cards.
At level 3, “Happy maker!” Rin can force your opponent into a “bad” refresh with 2 fewer CXs in deck. It almost goes without saying, but CXs should be chosen every time with the ability. CXs that have beneficial triggers or are part of key CX combos are the best to choose, unless there is some real incentive to choose other cards. Note that you can choose up to 2 cards, so if your opponent has nothing but non-CXs in the waiting room, you can just force the refresh with everything.
Rin has a lot of strong effects, and has a relatively low demand for stock. Every CX is a 1k1, so damage can be applied in big chunks, and often to boot.
But wait! Why is Rin best girl?
David chimes in (no pun intended):
Because she is Nyamaaaaaaazing!!
