Welcome to the first of 9 Love Live! Waifu Spotlights! For this waifu challenge, we collected nine lists from nine different Love Live! fans. Only cards with the character were allowed! We’ve asked each of these dedicated fans why their favorite idol is Best Girl™, and if you agree with them, you can look at the decks as a deck to try for a dedicated Waifu build!
Because the decks are not meant to be competitive, their viability in the tournament environment will not be assessed, and analysis will be significantly reduced.
Translations can be found on Heart of the Cards. Names will be matched to reflect the translation notes. If translations are unavailable for the card, in-house translations will be used. Card names will be aligned to match the more common spellings of names, if necessary.
This deck list is brought to you by Forrest Green.

Hanayo, Feelings Towards Live gives characters you control in front of it +500 power. It has a CX combo with The Answer Everyone Agreed Upon: when the CX is played, you may pay 1 stock. If you do, you choose a [Music] character you control, and it gets +2000 power until the end of your opponent’s next turn.
Hanayo, Discovered Idol! is a ‘standard’ [Music] searcher. (When played, you can pay 1 stock and discard a card. If you do, you search your deck for up to 1 [Music] character, reveal it, then shuffle your deck.)
When you play “Going Out Together” Hanayo, you reveal the top card of your deck. If it’s a [Music] character, you put that card into your hand, and then discard a card. (Otherwise, put the card back.)
Vanillas! But look at that おにぎり!!!
At level 1, we have 8 characters and 4 events.
“Dancing stars on me!” Hanayo Koizumi gets +1500 power on your opponent’s turn if you control 2 or more other [Music] characters.
“Jumping Ropes” Hanayo gets +500 power on your opponent’s turn for each other [Music] character you control. It has a CX combo with “Inauguration of New Club President”: when the CX is played, you may pay 2 stock. If you do, you search your deck for up to 1 level 1 or lower character, put it onto any slot on your stage, then shuffle.
When you play “No brand girls” Hanayo, you reveal the top card of your deck. If the revealed card is not a [Music] character, you send this card to the waiting room at the beginning of your encore phase.
Temptation of the Golden Rice has you look at the top card of your deck, then put that card on the top or bottom of your deck. You choose a “Hanayo” you control, and it gains +1 level and +4000 power until the end of your opponent’s next turn.
At level 2, we have 8 characters.
“KiRa-KiRa Sensation!” Hanayo Koizumi has a “level punisher” ability: when it attacks, if the character it battles is level 3 or higher, this character gains +4500 power and “When this reverses a character in battle, you may put that character on the bottom of its owner’s deck” until end of turn.
Hanayo, Loves Idols has a CX combo with Club Entry Declaration: when the CX is played, if this is on your center stage, you may pay 2 stock. If you do, you search your deck for up to 3 characters that are [Music] characters that cost 0 or less and/or “Alpaca” and put them onto your stage in any slot.
“Cooked Rice♪” Hanayo is a level support. (Gives characters you control in front of it +500 power times the level of that character) When a trigger check for a character you control reveals a CX, you choose a character you control and it gets +1 soul until end of turn.
“School Idol Festival” Hanayo has a 1 stock, +3000 power Backup ability.
At level 3, we have 6 characters.
“Incredible Sympathy” Hanayo has a Heal ability on play. You can pay 1 stock and discard a card to give it +2000 power and “When this reverses a character in battle, you may search your deck for up to 1 [Music] character” until end of turn. (Multiple instances of the ability being used can trigger; if you use it twice and reverse a character, you will search your deck for up to 2 characters, etc)
“Happy maker!” Hanayo Koizumi gets +1000 power for each other Hanayo character you control. When played, you draw up to 2 cards, then discard a card.
The CX spread is a 3/3/2 split among 2k1 + 2 soul, +1 stock +1 soul & +2 soul, +2 soul (+2 soul) effects and triggers respectively.
How do we use this deck?
Special thanks to Forrest again for contributing a small guide.
F: At level 0, there are a lot of vanilla/generic characters, but the deck has access to search effects to get ready for level 1. The assist even has a CX combo!
At level 1, the deck has cheap characters and the amazing Golden Rice Temptation event that makes Hanayo “large and in charge”. The second CX combo is active at level 1 which even pulls a character from the deck!
At level 2, the character lineup may look time, but there is a powerful level 3+ “slayer” Hanayo, and a third CX combo which can bring out many more characters from the deck! Surprise indeed!
Finally at level 3, the deck has the “usual” effect of Heal and card draw, but with some massive power boosts and added searching.
The deck’s CX combos use up a lot of stock, and playing events will whittle away at the hand. However, the combos at level 1 and 2 bring extra characters from the deck, which is almost like drawing a card. Hanayo has many ways to gain power, and every CX has a +2 soul trigger. Side attacking is definitely something to consider with the deck to be able to leave (possibly in multiples) a very large Hanayo for your opponent to deal with. One of the CXs supplies stock, so be sure to also use it to keep up with the deck’s stock usage.
Yes, but why is Hanayo best girl?
F: Hanayo is best girl in my opinion, because she was the first character to make me feel emotional. Because she is so shy and soft-spoken in general, it was hard for her to vocalize her feelings, and when she tried, it could be washed out by the louder girls. It was even difficult for her to tell her best friend that she wanted to become an idol! When Hanayo finally declared her wish to join the others as an idol, I felt a flood of emotions. I think it was a beautiful scene. I can relate to her because in the past, I had trouble finding where I fit in. Did I mention she’s also adorable?
